Getting Down to Earth with President

       Spring has been with us for some time. You may have thousands of ways to celebrate this promising season. However, President Yangsheng Xu may have other thoughts on how to get down to earth. He brought his students to a nearby village to till the land.

On the morning of 27 March, President Xu, along with 50 students, visited a small town populated with Hakka people, experiencing the fun in land tilling. As President Xu views it, working in the field is one of best ways to imbue students with morality and instill the whole person educational concept. As most students have no siblings to grow up with and no idea of peasantry life, this offers a unique experience in their college life: no pain, no gain and money doesn’t grow on trees.

These students all have one thing in common: this is their first time to work on a farmland. President Xu points out that nowadays most students have grown up in a steel and concrete forest, shun away from opportunities of really enjoying simplistic joys life has to offer. Tilling the land gets them the chance to smell the smell of the season, taste the sweetness of the soil, and most important of all, satisfy their gastronomical desires with dishes cooked with firewood. Mr. Xu is a man of his word. He rolled up sleeves, put on an apron, took up the frying pan, and fried vegetables for his horde.
