CUHK (SZ) Holds the Establishment Ceremony of the Second College, Diligentia College

On October 14, CUHK (SZ) held the establishment ceremony of Diligentia College. Present at the ceremony were Mr. DENG Xueqin, college donor and member of CUHK (SZ) Council, Professor Joseph J.Y. Sung, Chairman of CUHK (SZ) Council, Prof. Yangsheng Xu, President of CUHK (SZ), Prof. GU Yang, Head of Diligentia College. Guests and representatives, along with teachers and students from Diligentia College witnessed the foundation of Diligentia College.

Diligentia College is located at the Upper Campus. It is the second college of CUHK (SZ) established with donations from Mr. DENG Xueqin through Shenzhen Genzon Foundation. Mr. Deng addressed the good interaction between Silicon Valley and Stanford University, which partly explains why these two remain the most active global innovation centers. He hoped that the two “young partners”, Shenzhen and CUHK (SZ), would find a similar interaction whereby local development can synergize with education advancement.

In his address, President Yangsheng Xu also encouraged the students of Diligentia College by extolling the virtues of perseverance and tenacity that Mr. Deng had. President Xu hoped that our students could inherit the entrepreneur spirit of the city. If Deng is the first generation of explores, students of Diligentia College could be the second or third generation of business leaders.

The collegiate system is a cultural tradition of CUHK, which aims at providing a harmonious community for teachers and students to live, rest, study and communicate to strengthen students’ physical and mental health to achieve the purpose of holistic education. Diligentia College will boost the college experience of CUHK (SZ) students.
