President Xu’s Lecture: Liberation of Human being——from Manual Labor to Mental Labor.

The Go competition between Lee Sedol and AlphaGo aroused people's extensive discussion and reflection on artificial intelligence.What is artificial intelligence? What important role will it play in the future?

Prof. Xu Yangsheng, President of The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen and Fellow of Chinese Academy of Engineering, elaborated the topic "Liberation of Human being——from Manual Labor to Mental Labor" on 25 October, 2017 in the Governing Board Meeting Room. Prof. Xu Yangsheng analyzed the different strengths of human beings and robots, expounded how human beings should give play to their advantages in creating rules, innovating culture and developing creativity. The lecture is a Committee Lecture held by Municipal Political Consultative Conference.

 Prof. Xu's profile:

Professor Xu Yangsheng is Academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering, and the President of The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen. He received his PhD degree from the University of Pennsylvania, and then joined Carnegie Mellon University, and subsequently The Chinese University of Hong Kong. In 2013, Professor Xu was appointed the first President of The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen after a global selection process.

Professor Xu's research includes robotics, intelligent systems and artificial intelligence. He has been interested in space robotics, service robotics, robot language, wearable interface, intelligent vehicles and self-learning systems. He has published 6 books, and over 300 papers in international journals in these areas. He is Academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering, Fellow of International Academy of Aeronautics and Astronautics, Fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, Academician of International Eurasian Academy of Sciences, and Fellow of Hong Kong Academy of Engineering Science.
