Professor X.Q. Cai Elected Academician of the International Academy for Systems and Cybernetic Sciences

Prof. Xiaoqiang Cai of the University was recently elected an Academician of the International Academy for Systems and Cybernetic Sciences (IASCYS).

Prof. Xiaoqiang Cai of the University was recently elected an Academician of the International Academy for Systems and Cybernetic Sciences (IASCYS), in recognition of his outstanding contributions to the research and practice of systems and cybernetic sciences.

 

Professor Cai is the Associate Vice President of the University.  His research is mainly in the areas of industrial and systems engineering, optimization, and logistics and supply chain management. He has published 4 books and over 200 papers in academic journals, books, and international conferences, including over 100 papers in leading journals (such as Operations Research, Management Science, Naval Research Logistics, Production and Operations Management, IIE Transactions, and IEEE Transactions). He has been on the editorial boards of several international journals, including IIE Transactions on Scheduling and Logistics, Journal of Scheduling, and Fuzzy Decision Making and Optimization, and guest editors for Annals of Operations Research,Journal of Global Optimization,and European Journal of Operational Research. He was the general chair of several international conferences in the areas of optimization and operations management. From 1996 to 2003, he served as the Chairman of the Department of Systems Engineering and Engineering Management of The Chinese University of Hong Kong, the first department of such disciplines in Hong Kong. Under his leadership, this Department developed into a strong and highly influential force in systems engineering and engineering management in the Asia-Pacific region.

 

The International Academy for Systems and Cybernetic Sciences, headquartered in Vienna, Austria, is composed of 36 member countries and international societies. Its academicians are elected in accordance with 11 criteria, including academic achievements, publications, citations, and reputation in the academic field. An academician of the International Academy for Systems and Cybernetic Sciences is the highest academic honorary title in the field of system engineering. At present, the Academy has a total of 58 academicians.
