Prof. Aaron J.Ciechanover, 2004 Nobel Laureate in Chemistry, has been appointed as Distinguished Professor-at-Large of The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen.

Prof. Aaron J.Ciechanover, 2004 Nobel Laureate in Chemistry, has been appointed as Distinguished Professor-at-Large of The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen commencing 17 October, 2017. During a recent speech on personalized medicine, he reflected on the complex bioethical problems which accompany the development of technologies to sequence individual genomes, metabolome and the design of mechanism-based drugs,etc in this new era.

 

Prof. Aaron Ciechanover is the first Israeli scientist to win the Nobel Prize in Chemistry. He won this award for his discovery of ubiquitin-mediated protein degradation while working at The Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences. The ubiquitin-proteasome pathway is critical in maintaining the homeostasis of cells and is believed to be involved in the development and progression of diseases such as cancer, muscular and neurological diseases, immune and inflammatory responses.
