CUHK-Shenzhen 2018 Concert - Sing for Greater Bay Area

The 2018 Concert of The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen was held in the Shenzhen Concert Hall on the evening of November 25, 2018.

 

The 2018 Concert of The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen was held in the Shenzhen Concert Hall on the evening of November 25, 2018. The concert showcased the fusion of classical and modern pop music, and brought Eastern and Western cultures together on one stage. 

 

 

The opening ensembles co-performed by the Chinese Music Society of New Asia College and the Chinese Orchestra of CUHK-Shenzhen successfully showed the traditional Chinese folk music. The performance featured Dance of Yao People and The Legend of the Condor Heroes, highlighting the minority cultures in China and the classic martial spirits.

In the Opera Tenor Solo, Mr. Tian Li fully demonstrated the charm of opera with consummate skills through two songs "O Sole Mio", and "Dicitencello Vuie". Mr Tian Li, an artist-in-residence of CUHK-Shenzhen, will sing along with students on campus after the concert.

 

 

Subsequently, the teachers and students of the Department of Music of The Chinese University of Hong Kong and the CUHK Choir respectively performed the piano quintet and four Cantonese chorus songs, bringing the first half of the concert to a climax.

The second half of the concert opened with "Shenzhen Hello", a dance performed by Students Parents Art Troupe of CUHK-Shenzhen.

Eight students of CUHK-Shenzhen provided a vocal ensemble and brought to life the music of diverse cultures. The songs they performed ranged from pop music to opera, including Perfect Duet, Nightlife in Shanghai, Danger in Loving You, and Time to Say Goodbye.

 

 

Chinese pop singer Rose Liu, special guest of this concert, won applause with two popular songs, "Across the Ocean to See You" and "She Says".

Performance by CUHK Chorus and CUHK-Shenzhen Chorus

 

Conducted by Ms. Dorothy Wong, Director of Administrative Services Office and University Planning and Coordination Office, the grand finale "Descendants of the Dragon" was presented by CUHK chorus and CUHK-Shenzhen chorus together, marking a perfect ending of the CUHK-Shenzhen 2018 Concert.

The Shenzhen Concert Hall was fully packed with an audience of over 1600 people, who were captivated from start to finish. The excellent cooperation between CUHK, CUHK-Shenzhen and many other talented musicians celebrated a magnificent future of CUHK-Shenzhen and the Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macau Greater Bay Area.
