The National High School Presidents Forum on Cultivation of Future Global Talents organized by The Chinese University of Hong Kong and The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen was held at CUHK-Shenzhen from November 24th to 27th.

The National High School Presidents Forum on Cultivation of Future Global Talents organized by The Chinese University of Hong Kong and The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen was held at CUHK-Shenzhen from November 24th to 27th. Nearly 200 key high school presidents and teachers from 22 provinces and cities including Beijing, Guangdong, Zhejiang, Shanghai, Shandong, Hubei, Hunan, Sichuan, Chongqing, Fujian and Henan attended the Forum to discuss education development and talent training.

 

 

 

The shortage of international talents has become a rising challenge for the economic and social development of China. To investigate the issue and find a way out for China's higher education reform, this very forum came into being.

 

The forum started with an introduction of CUHK-Shenzhen's educational philosophy given by Professor Yangsheng Xu, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and President of The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen. Mr. Zhiwen Chen, Editor-in-Chief of Eol.cn (China Education Online), then brought a keynote report on "The Difficult Balance of Science and Equity – Practice and Reflection of the College Entrance Examination Reform". Professor Shiping Zhu, Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada and the Canadian Academy of Engineering, Vice President of CUHK-Shenzhen, and Professor, S.Y. Tong,  Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Dean of the Graduate School, respectively shared with the guests on the topics of  "High School Education and Talent Training in China and the West" and "Exploration of Chinese Education in the New Era - Training of High School Talents in the Next Twenty Years".

After the forum, the high school presidents attended the Annual Concert 2018 of CUHK-Shenzhen, together with the guests from all walks of life, enjoying a music feast at the Shenzhen Concert Hall.

Since Shenzhen, known as China's "Silicon Valley", is home to numerous world-class high-tech enterprises, field trips to local well-known enterprises were arranged on the second day for a group of high school presidents to experience the technology frontier. The rest of them attended the seminars held by The Chinese University of Hong Kong and exchanged with mainland Chinese students studying there. 

 

 

 

 

 

The purpose of this forum is to provide a platform for the communication between high schools and universities. It is an exploration of the new higher education model and an effective way to make contribution to the educational reform in China.
