School of Life and Health Sciences Newly Established

On November 14, Professor Xu Yangsheng, president of The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen, announced the establishment of the School of Life and Health Sciences. It is the fourth school of the University after the founding of the School of Management and Economics, the School of Science and Engineering and the School of Humanities and Social Science.

The School of Life and Health Sciences (LHS) at CUHK-Shenzhen is to pursue excellence in learning, discovery and innovation in life and health sciences for the benefit of human health and well-being. It strives to be an internationally recognized life and health science school that offers inspiring educational opportunities for students, conducts interdisciplinary research with global impact and serves the life and health science profession and the community with distinction. It will focus on providing students with rigorous, multi-disciplinary training that enable graduates to be leaders and innovators in life and health science professions. This will be accomplished by developing and offering curricula that integrate life sciences, health sciences, research and bioengineering design.

Prof. Ye Richard Dequan   

Professor Ye Richard Dequan has been appointed as the founding dean of the School of Life and Health Sciences (LHS), and will commence his appointment as Dean of LHS on February 1, 2019.Professor Ye is an established pharmacologist with abundant research and academic administrative experience.  In this position, Professor Ye will work with LHS faculty and staff, responsible for the development of the new school and for managing its academic and non-academic affairs.

The new school is expected to collaborate closely with the School of Science and Engineering and the three institutes led by Nobel Prize Laureates, which are the Arieh Warshel Institute of Computational Biology, the Kobilka Institute of Innovative Drug Discovery and the Ciechanover Institute of Precision and Regenerative Medicine

The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen was established in 2014 granted with the approval of China's Ministry of Education and welcomed its first cohort of students in the same year. Inheriting the educational philosophy of The Chinese University of Hong Kong, the University aims to evolve into a comprehensive research university with the mission to combine tradition with modernity, and to bring together China and the West.

The University is featured with its international teaching and learning environment, collegiate system, general education, multidisciplinary programs and a student-centered educational philosophy.

Currently, more than 4,000 undergraduate, postgraduate and PhD students are studying at The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen.
