CUHK-Shenzhen officially opened the direct enrollment channel for foreign language recommended students in 2018 and all foreign language students recommended by the 16 foreign language secondary schools designated by the Ministry of Education can apply for enrollment.

On February 11, the Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen officially opened the direct enrollment channel for foreign language students in 2018. All foreign language students recommended by the 16 foreign language secondary schools designated by the Ministry of Education can apply for enrollment. A detailed admissions briefing has been published on the website of the Admissions Office of CUHK-Shenzhen (http://admissions.cuhk.edu.cn/).

This is the first time for CUHK-Shenzhen to enroll foreign language recommended students, indicating that the University officially joins other mainland universities to recruit recommended students. Successful applicants will be admitted to HSS, CUHK-Shenzhen to study Translation.

Translation (Chinese/ English) is a B.A. programme of CUHK-Shenzhen newly offered in 2016. The programme aims to develop students' solid bilingual capacity and offer them training in Chinese-English translation/interpretation skills and the related skills, which will enable them to become professionals in the fields of translation and intercultural communication. While focusing on practical skills, this programme covers a wide range of subjects and areas to help students become lifelong learners. With Language Lab, CAT, and other IT technologies for learning and training, students will gain advanced technical knowledge to improve learning and productivity. Graduates enjoy broad employment and development prospects.

In this programme, instead of simply converting one language to another, students are required and encouraged to trace the source, ask quality questions, and dwell on the relevant issues. When acquiring knowledge and studying translation, students also learn to think about how language affects people's way of thinking and behavior. In addition to translation professional courses, undergraduate students also need to take General Education courses offered by HSS. The General Education is divided into general compulsory courses such as "Dialogue with Nature" and "Dialogue with Humanity" to establish a common intellectual and cultural foundation for undergraduates. Students can broaden their knowledge backgrounds and cultural perspectives by reading Chinese and foreign classics in the fields of science, engineering, business, humanities and social sciences, which also allows them to accumulate sufficient knowledge for translation work.

CUHK-Shenzhen recruits teachers from around the world according to the strict employment standards of world-class universities. The translation major brings together outstanding translation teachers from Mainland China, Hong Kong and Taiwan. Most of the professors are internationally renowned and boast many years of experience in translation teaching and research. At the same time, the University has also reached cooperation intentions with many first-rate overseas universities. Students of this major can participate in various overseas exchange programmes including joint degree training programmes, co-cultivation, inter-school exchanges, overseas exchanges and international summer courses.
