Application Process Begins for Academic Year 2015

After half a year of intensive preparation, the Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen, has set up its first batch of postgraduate programmes which are of the hallmarks of CUHK education, in an effort to meet the increasing demand of China’s economic and social development. The 3 newly launched programmes include Master of Science Programme in Financial Engineering, Master of Arts Programme in Translation & Interpreting Studies (MAT&I), and Master of Arts Programme in Simultaneous Interpreting (MASI), starting in the 2015-16 academic year.

While following the “Regulations on Chinese-Foreign Cooperation in Running Schools” set up by the Ministry of Education, CUHKSZ adopts the same quality assurance processes and standards for degrees as CUHK, and the Senate of CUHK is responsible for the approval and monitoring of programmes offered by CUHKSZ. CUHK degrees will be conferred on CUHKSZ students who meet the requirements of the respective academic programs.

Responding to a huge demand for market practitioners with advanced quantitative skills, the newly established Master of Science Programme in Financial Engineering is designed to equip students with multidisciplinary training in applying quantitative methodologies to finance. The students trained by the programme will be highly sought after and able to meet new challenges in the dynamically changing and rapidly growing Chinese and international financial markets.

With China playing an increasingly important role globally, effective communication with the rest of the world is vital for the country’s further development. The need for language professionals to help bridging the gap of communication is enormous given the size and impact of the nation’s economy. The newly launched Master Programmes in Translation and Interpreting Studies (MAT&I) and Simultaneous Interpreting (MASI) are in response to the national and global needs for quality language service and high level training in the learning and teaching of translation and interpreting.

In terms of admission and recruitment methods, different from most of the higher education institutions in the Mainland, CUHKSZ adopts an international standard application-admission system which is in line with global trends of higher education. Applications will be carefully reviewed based on the candidates’ academic performance, language skills, interests in professional learning and practical experience, etc. After comprehensive and extensive examinations, the enrollment will be merit-based and the list of successful candidates will be announced accordingly.
