The Third Graduation Ceremony for Postgraduate Students of The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen was held on the morning of November 17, 2018 on the University's Central Avenue.

     

 

The Third Graduation Ceremony for Postgraduate Students of The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen was held on the morning of November 17, 2018 onthe University's Central Avenue. More than 500 guests, including Governing Board members, senior administrators, professors, graduates and guests from all walks of life, were present. The ceremony was also graced by the presence of Guest of Honour,Dr. Anthony Neoh.

Speech by President Xu Yangsheng 

 

Addressing the ceremony, President Xu Yangsheng congratulated the graduates and exhorted them to seize the opportunities brought by the building of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area. Prof. Xu stated that students should realize the importance of "One Country,Two Systems" and “Reform and Opening up” policies in the development of the Greater Bay Area. He quoted President Xi Jinping's words "The reform and opening up is always ongoing" to call on students to actively participate in the building of the Greater Bay Area and contribute to the development of the country.

 

Speech by Dr. Anthony Neoh, member of the Govening Board of CUHK-Shenzhen

 

Dr. Anthony Neoh, member of the Governing Board of CUHK-Shenzhen was invited to deliver a guest speech. Dr. Neon raised concerns about the severe challenges that China is facing at the moment, including economic transformation and the trade war. He encouraged the graduates to work on the challenges for the country with their knowledge. 

 

Speech by Hu Xiao, Finance Graduate Representative from Diligentia College

 

On behalf of the 2018 graduates, Hu Xiao, a finance major, expressed his gratitude to the University for providing students with a platform where they can explore their potential and broaden their horizons. He also shared his understanding of the success of higher education with his fellows, motivating them to undertake more social responsibilities. 

 

"I want to remind us graduate students that the success of university education should not be judged by the salary of our job, or by how luxury the car we drive, the house we live, but by how much impact and contribution we can make to where we live and work. From the moment we graduate from this University, we will be representing CUHK-Shenzhen wherever we go,and I believe that we will make the University be proud of us."

 

The ceremony also saw the Outstanding Graduates Certificates presented to four graduates with excellent achievements. The four graduatesare Luo Kangte (Simultaneous Interpreting), Xiao Yao (Translation & Interpreting Studies), LiZhuo (Finance), and Pan Xiaoyu (Financial Engineering). 

 

 

The third cohort of postgraduate students of CUHK-Shenzhen, including Accounting, Economics, and Finance graduates from SME, Translation & Interpreting Studies and Simultaneous Interpreting graduates from HSS and Financial Engineering graduates from iDDA (Institute for Data and Decision Analytics), mainly choose to work infirst-tiercities after graduation. 75% of them will work in Shenzhen, and the rest will be based in Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Dongguan, Xiamen, Tianjin and other cities. Most of them will serve in major banks, securities companies, accounting firms, state-owned enterprises and major internetcompanies, including Bank of China, Industrial and Commercial Bank of China, Ping An Bank, China Merchants Bank, China Merchants Securities, Guosen Securities, Huawei, Deloitte, PWC, Foreign Affairs Office of Yunnan Provincial People's Government, Tencent, etc. Part of the graduates are going to continue their studies or start their own businesses.

 

Prof. Xu Yangsheng introduced in the interview that graduates from CUHK-Shenzhen show great advantages in employment and further studies with their excellent language skills and solid professional knowledge in line with the international standards. Such achievement is largely attributed to the high-quality faculty team, the bilingual teaching and learning environment, the holistic collegiate system and the good academic atmosphere of CUHK-Shenzhen. In the future, the University will launch more part-time programmes to cultivate high-level talents and further contribute to the development of Shenzhen, the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area, and the whole country.

 

Unlike most mainland universities, The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen adopts an application system for postgraduate admission. Successful applicants will meet the academic and linguistic standards required of CUHK-Shenzhen.

 

Up to now, CUHK-Shenzhen has set up 11 postgraduate (master's and doctoral) programmes, including M.Phil.-Ph.D. Programme in Biological Sciences,  M.Phil.-Ph.D. Programme in Computer and Information Engineering, M.Phil.-Ph.D in New Energy Science and Engineering, Master of Arts in Simultaneous Interpreting, Master of Arts in Translation & Interpreting Studies, Master of Science in Accounting, Master of Science in Applied Psychology, Master of Science in Data Science, Master of Science in Economics, Master of Science in Finance, Master of Science in Financial Engineering, and EMSc Programme in Supply Chain and Logistics Management.
