On 4th March, Diligentia College invited chefs from five-star hotel to join the 4th Potluck: sushi party, in the 3rd floor, Letian Building. Potluck Party is a great chance to learn practical skills with peers and teachers as well as sharing food with them.

March might remind you the cherry blossom in Kyoto. Here in our campus, we have a Sushi Party in March.

In CIDE, students gathered around the table and cannot wait to have a try. Three chefs brought basic ingredients: hot sushi rice, carrot strip, cucumber, tamago, ham, nori sheets and crab roe in different colors.

Step 1: place the nori sheet on sushi rolling mat with smooth side on the top. Then spread out rice evenly,

tightly covering three quarters of the nori sheet with rice.

Step 2: place your favorite filling ingredients across the middle of rice. Let’s take a look!

Step 3: last but not least, rolling sushi. Tips: roll with the bamboo mat evenly, stick nori with sushi rice.

You could try different shapes: triangle, square and so forth.

After that, moisten a knife with a little water, slice the roll into neat rounds.

Here we go, sushi! It will have better taste with some crab roe and Thousand Island Dressing.

Chefs also taught students how to make inside out roll: turn all ingredients over on the rolling mat,

cover rolls with crab roe, tantalizing!

Students shared DIY sushi with each other. They are crazy about the big hand roll made by the cute Italian chef.

I love Diligentia Potluck sooo much! Thanks to college that got us together with three chefs in the bright March. We had a memorable feast: wrapping happiness with sushi rice, cucumber, carrot, ham, fish roe into nori sheet. See you next time!

How could an Italian made such wonderful sushi! Chef Jack also impressed me with his story: start form an apprentice in a Japanese restaurant to where he is now, we have no idea about what he had went through. Wish I could have the chance to try his filetto mignon sometime!
