2016.11.10 || The SALL Centre —— Spotlight on: Workshops

A workshop is an intensive class on a specific topic that is of interest to students. Workshops offer hands-on practice and are limited to 10 students, so everyone has the opportunity to participate.

For example, in the workshop “Oral Presentation Skills”, students learned the skills of effective, dynamic communication. They worked on eye contact, voice projection, and appropriate gestures. They were also given some helpful phrases to use when introducing, wrapping up, and transitioning during a presentation. Everyone had the chance to try out these skills and receive feedback from their peers and the workshop teacher.

Here, a teacher leads a workshop on word parts, in which students gained the tools to better understand new words by identifying their roots and affixes. The small group setting of a workshop allows the teacher to give students lots of attention. While workshops at the SALL Centre are designed to be relaxed and enjoyable, there is also some work involved in every workshop.

Recent workshop topics at the SALL Centre include Idioms and Phrasal Verbs, Oral Presentation Skills, and Word Parts. Check our weekly e-mail announcement for upcoming workshops.
